The Rapid flu tests (same day-nose swab test), are best used within the first 48 hours of symptoms to help diagnose influenza and determine whether or not anti-viral medications should be used, or they are ordered within the first week to help identify outbreaks.
Currently, the rapid influenza antigen test cannot distinguish seasonal influenza from the H1N1 influenza (“swine flu”). Influenza virus grown in culture could be sent to a public health laboratory to determine if the strain of influenza A is the antigenic type (H1N1) found in pigs.
“We are encouraging the public to use good, common sense, to talk to their health-care provider about getting a flu shot, to wash their hands frequently, cover their cough, avoid touching their face and to stay home if they are sick. However, as we enter the flu season, and aware of the new H1N1 virus, we want to ensure everyone has access to an affordable rapid test for influenza,” said Dr. Isaac Farrell, director of Lab Express.
Ovarian Cancer Screening CA-125 Test for $30
Each year in the United States, more than 21,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 15,000 women die of the disease. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 21,550 new cases of ovarian cancer will be dignosed in the U.S. during the current year.
Often called the "silent" killer, because many times there are no symptoms of the disease until the it has progressed to an advanced stage.
Early symptoms of ovarian cancer are often mild, making this disease difficult to detect. Some early symptoms may include:
- An unusual feeling of fullness or discomfort in the pelvic region
- Unexplainable indigestion, gas, or bloating that is not relieved with over-the-counter antacids
- Pain during sexual intercourse
- Abnormal bleeding
- Swelling and pain of the abdomen
What is CA-125?
CA-125, cancer antigen-125, is a protein that is found at levels in most ovarian cancer cells that are elevated compared to normal cells. CA-125 is produced on the surface of cells and is released in the blood stream.
What is a CA-125 test?
The CA-125 test assesses the concentration of CA-125 in the blood. The test requires a sample of the patient's blood to be drawn.
How much is a CA-125 test?
The CA-125 test normally runs at $65. The CA-125 will be priced at $30 throughout the month of November 2009. Call (702) 643-5227 to schedule your visit to Lab Express.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month Free Lecture and Screening
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - 8 SEP 2009. Lab Express announced today it will offer a free community lecture on the importance of prostate cancer screenings during the month of September and ten FREE prostate cancer screenings of PSA Blood Test.
The title of the lecture, Understanding Prostate Cancer and the Screening Controversies, will be conducted by Dr. Joseph Candelas, V MD MPH, urologic oncology surgeon, at a date to be announced.
“Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men,” stated Dr. Joseph Candelas, V MD MPH, a urology oncology specialist. “This year alone, an estimated 192,280 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 27,000 men will die from it. While prostate cancer is very prevalent, it also is very treatable when detected early.” (1)
The purpose of screening for cancer is to detect the cancer at its earliest stages, before any symptoms have developed. Typically, men whose prostate cancer is detected through screening are found to have very early-stage disease that can be treated most effectively.
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men, other than skin cancer. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men. (Lung cancer is the first.) One man in 6 will get prostate cancer during his lifetime. And one man in 35 will die of this disease. More than 2 million men in the United States who have had prostate cancer at some point are still alive today. The death rate for prostate cancer is going down, and the disease is being found earlier, too. (2)
“In recognition of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Lab Express is delighted to partner with Dr. Joseph Candelas and the Latin Chamber of Commerce to provide this free lecture and offer ten free PSA prostate cancer screenings, an event free and open to the public. For those men unable to attend the lecture, Lab Express will offer during the month of September a discount or 50 percent on its PSA Blood Test, down to $30 (Regularly $60).” To attend the free lecture, call (702) 412-5625.

Lab Express Offers Introductory Price for the PLAC Test
FDA-approved blood test helps Physicians determine hidden risk for stroke or heart attack.
Lab Express announced today it will offer The PLAC® Test at an introductory price of only $69.
It is no secret that a great number of people die every year of coronary heart disease. However, many people are not aware that most heart attacks are not caused by plaque buildup, but by plaque rupture causing blood clots that block the blood flow. (1)
Fortunately, there is a simple new and affordable blood test that goes beyond traditional risk factors to help identify patients at increased risk of heart disease and stroke. The PLAC® Test is a simple blood test that aids in detecting one’s risk for both CHD and ischemic stroke, and Lab Express is offering the test at an introductory price of only $69.
"At Lab Express, we are committed to providing our community with the most affordable and accessible laboratory services," stated Dr. Isaac Farrell, Director of Lab Express. We want to make certain the PLAC® Test is not only affordable but accessible to people 45 and older who may be on a fixed budget or lack proper insurance coverage. Our Phlebotomists will come to their homes to draw the blood, making it convenient, confidential, and personal," concluded Dr. Farrell.
The PLAC® Test measures Lp-PLA2 (lipoprotein-associated phospholipase), a vascular-specific inflammatory enzyme implicated in the formation of rupture-prone plaque. It is plaque rupture and thrombosis, not stenosis, that cause the majority of cardiac events.
Used in conjunction with the clinical evaluation of traditional risk factors, the PLAC® Test helps identify people who may not be identified by traditional risk factors and who may benefit from more aggressive treatment programs.
The PLAC® Test is the only blood test cleared by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) to aid in assessing risk for both coronary heart disease and ischemic stroke associated with atherosclerosis.
